Regina Keelan Bass: Law, Mystery, and the Supernatural
Regina Keelan Bass is a retired attorney with over three decades of distinguished legal practice, primarily in Kansas City, Missouri. Admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1976, she built a reputation as one of the city’s most respected family law practitioners, concentrating her practice in that field from 1980 onward. She was later admitted to the Kansas Bar in 2006.
Regina’s excellence in her field was recognized early and consistently. She received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest distinction awarded for legal ability and ethical standards, as early as 1987. She was listed in Best Lawyers in America in Family Law continuously from 1987 through 2008, and was included in Super Lawyers beginning in 2005.
Beyond her individual practice, Regina was deeply committed to the legal community. She served as Chair of the Family Law Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 1991, and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 1983, one of the most selective honors in family law. She later served on the Board of Governors of the Academy in 1989.
Among her most notable contributions to the profession, Regina authored the first Missouri handbook on Mediation for the Missouri Bar, a resource that shaped how mediation was understood and practiced across the state. She retired from law in 2008 after a career spanning 32 years.
Now living in Wichita, Kansas, having moved there in 2025, Regina has devoted her retirement to writing, teaching, and family. She taught high school English and also worked as an ELL teacher in Las Vegas before her move. Her debut novel, Ghost Judge, a legal mystery with supernatural and romantic elements, draws directly on her deep knowledge of the Kansas City legal world and courtroom culture. The story has been nearly twenty years in the making and reflects the same precision, integrity, and humanity that defined her legal career.
In her personal life, Regina is married to Ruben Rodriguez, a retired math and computer teacher. She has a son, Christopher Corey Bass, and a grandson, Seeger Benton Bass, both of whom live in Kechi, Kansas, a suburb of Wichita. When she is not writing or teaching, she can be found swimming, playing piano, or cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
